Welcome to the Electronic Learning Community (ELC)!

This learning community has been created to provide a flexible and inexpensive means for emergency responders to receive high quality training. A major goal of this initiative is to create a training program that can reach the underserved volunteer response community who often lack the resources of time and money that are necessary to obtain timely training. However, this ELC is designed to be open to everyone so that it can be a training resource for all types of responders. A course focused on hydrogen fuels has been developed as the first subject matter in order to pilot this electronic learning community concept. The ELC hopes to expand its available content to include topics on additional alternative energy sources, emerging technologies and other issues important to the emergency response community.

The ELC is made possible through a cooperative agreement between the International Association of Fire Chiefs (IAFC) and the Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA), part of the United States Department of Transportation (U.S. DOT). Funding is provided by the U.S. DOT’s Research and Innovative Technology Administration (RITA).
